Carolyn has 30+ years of healthcare management, quality management, credentialing and consulting experience encompassing work with health plans, IROs, short and long term acute care hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and accreditation surveys. She has assisted clients, including start up health plans and hospitals, with 55 applications and surveys for URAC, Joint Commission, HFAP, CARF, Medicare, NCQA, and various state surveys; all of which successfully achieved accreditation. Carolyn’s ability to simplify the interpretation of regulations and standards for client staff is one of her strong skills.
She has written and implemented Credentialing programs for hospitals, health plans and IROs to establish structure to recruit and maintain qualified professional practitioners, while providing sound mechanisms to perform peer review and hearing processes as needed. She has a strong clinical knowledge base and has established specialty clinical programs for Brain Injury, Strokes, Orthopedics, Autism, and Pharmacy.
During her career, Carolyn has held operations management positions for hospitals and health plans in Quality and Risk Management, and served as CEO of long term acute care hospitals in Georgia; Ohio; Arkansas and
Indiana. She worked with the Joint Commission and was one of two people who wrote the Rehabilitation Accreditation Standards, and also was an Educational Instructor for the hospital and rehabilitation accreditation programs.
Carolyn studied Business Administration at Southern Indiana University and Alameda College, and completed a one year Fellowship in Leadership at Ohio University. She holds two certifications as a Quality Management Trainer and has had additional education in healthcare law and ethics. A published author in the areas of healthcare quality and information management, Carolyn has been a speaker on the national level regarding quality, risk management, and healthcare ethics. She was honored as the Ohio Woman of the Year in Healthcare by the YWCA for her work nationwide to reduce medication errors and improve hospital quality.
